Jochanan, hebräischer Schriftsteller, * Schpikow (Gebiet Winniza, Ukraine) 24. 5. 1900, ✝ Tel Aviv 28. 11. 1967; stammte aus einer chassidischen Familie, emigrierte 1926 in die USA, lehrte 1927-47 am Hebrew College in Boston (Massachusetts) und lebte seit 1947 in Tel Aviv. Er schrieb historische Romane über jüdische und nichtjüd. Persönlichkeiten (»Uriel Acosta«, 3 Bände, 1935-38; »Achad Haam«, 1941; »Alfred Dreyfus«, 1946; »Raschi«, 1946; »Höhe und Abgrund«, 1951, aus der Zeit des zweiten Tempels, alle hebräisch). Chassidische Themen behandelte er in »Die Jungfrau von Ludmir« (1950, hebräisch) und »Im inneren Hof« (1954, hebräisch).
